This November saw us come of age: Si digital turned 21 years old. For anyone, this is an important milestone, but for us in particular, it offered not only the chance for a party but also the opportunity to reflect upon where and how it all began – and that was with our founder, Steven (Pip) Piper.

Once upon a time in Romford…

2001: the year Apple launches the iPod, Wikipedia hits the internet and Windows XP is released by Microsoft. There are many exciting technological innovations and for Steve, the website manager for a hotel chain in Essex, the time is right to start his own business. With experience in database management and coding, he wanted to provide web services to other businesses. He officially started working for (originally named) Something Interesting on 7 November.

Realising that living by the sea was preferable to Romford, Steve and his fledgling business made the move to Southsea and soon after employed his first member of staff. The company grew gradually, and much of its early work was for the car insurance industry, where clients included the Co-op, AA and Hastings.

Pizza time!

to mark our birthday, we celebrated first with a get-together in the office to catch up on the year’s projects and start discussing plans for the coming year. Everyone enjoyed pizza and Champagne for lunch, followed by an afternoon out local (awesome) retro gaming cafe, Game Over.

It’s a cliche to toast 21 years with “Here’s to the next 21”, but with so many exciting projects in the pipeline, innovative tech being created all the time and with such an incredible, talented team, we truly are looking forward to our next couple of decades.

If you’d like to learn more about our work, or have a project you’d like to chat about, then please get in touch.
