PHP Developer (Mid Weight)

About the role

Some recent new client wins, and our continued development of existing client projects, means we are now looking for a mid weight PHP developer to join the team.

You will have at least 2 years commercial experience in modern PHP development and MVC Frameworks, ideally using Laminas (although we’re happy with other similar frameworks). You’ll be keen to get stuck in to supporting existing client projects and also working on new, greenfield builds. Some of our new build software projects can be anything up to 6 months, but you'll be working alongside other PHP devs.

Established in 2001, Si digital has worked with big names across the world (Hasbro, Amcor, Wightlink, Co-op – and some we can’t name). We design and build websites, e-commerce platforms, back office systems and mobile apps as well as our own internal hack projects. We maintain long lasting relationships with our customers and only work with people that share our core values.

You’ll be joining a growing team of developers who enjoy collaborating and helping each other out. Where you are supported and encourage to grow and where every opinion is valid and respected.

We have a lovely office in Southsea (Portsmouth) which the team use when they want, and for our monthly team get together and a fairly regular LAN party if that’s your thing. Although we offer a hybrid approach to work, we are favouring those candidates who prefer to be in the office more regularly.

You may not have all the experience in the world just yet, but that’s fine, we’re happy to help train and develop you.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with a small development team, to create new digital products for a range of interesting customers
Integrating web solutions with client-provided APIs
Triaging helpdesk tickets and helping clients with issues or requests for work
Work on in-house hack projects, which will define the company direction

Desired Skills:

You feel at home in modern PHP 7 or 8
Knowledge of using object-oriented principles to solve problems
You have experience using JSON based RESTful APIs
You have a solid understanding of using Composer
Experience using Docker

Beneficial Skills:

You have experience with at least one PHP MVC framework, we use Zend Framework / Laminas

You have an interest in Sysadmin and DevOps. We use AWS along with Kubernetes, and are always on the lookout to help us manage and improve our infrastructure
