The Problem
This Canadian client wanted a proof of concept web app which could accurately overlay global ship movements with damage to the undersea data cables that keep the world connected.
They wanted to be able to correlate any under water cable breakages with ships in the area at anchor.
The Solution
The tricky part was capturing the time at which the cable experienced a fault and then replaying the movement of ships in close proximity to the fault point.
We developed a timeline scroller, allowing the user to scroll back and forth over the last 24 hours to see the path of ships in the vicinity of the cable break at the time.
The proof of concept was a great success and the next stage of development was approved by the board.
